Saturday Fun (星期六,笑一笑)
1,
A Hindu priest, a Rabbi and a lawyer were driving down the road, when the car broke down and it was getting dark.
They were lucky. They found a farmhouse nearby but they got a tiny problem: the farmer told them he only had one extra bedroom and only two twin beds but they were welcome to it. That meant that one of them had to sleep in the barn.
After much discussions, the Hindu volunteered to go to the barn.
A few moments later, there was a knock on the bedroom door.
The Hindu said he could never sleep with a holy cow.
Annoyed, the Rabbi volunteered.
A few moments later, there was another knock on the door.
The Rabbi said there was a pig in the barn and that he could not possibly spend the evening in the barn with the origin of pork.
The lawyer reluctantly went.
A few moments later there was a knock on the door.
It was the cow and the pig!

A tourist is traveling with a guide through one of the thickest jungles in South America. When he comes across an ancient Mayan temple, he is in rapture and starts asking the guide for details.
To this, the guide states that archaeologists are carrying out excavations, and still finding great treasures.
The tourist then queries how old the temple is.
"This temple is 1503 years old", replies the guide.
Impressed at this accurate dating, he inquires as to how he can be so sure.
"Oh, that's easy", replies the guide, "the archaeologists said the temple was 1500 years old. That was three years ago"

Mueller is traveling with his wife and mother-in-law in New Guinea.
At a sacred place, his mother-in-law makes some rude remark to which the natives take great offence.
Mueller is dragged off before the local headman with his wife and mother-in-law and each is to receive 50 cane lashes on the rear end.
But before the execution of the penalty, the headman says that since they are tourists, he'd wish to give them each the courtesy of one last wish.
Mrs. Mueller is first.
"What do you wish for yourself?"
"I would like a pillow bound on my rear end before the lashings."
"Okay, that shall be granted to you."
Mrs. Mueller has the pillow bound to her rear end and receives her punishment. But because the pillow is too small and some lashes land on her back by accident, she receives a few blows.
Next it is Mueller's mother-in-law's turn.
"What do you wish for yourself?"
"I would like a pillow bound on my rear end and a pillow bound on my back before the lashings."
"Okay, that shall be granted to you."
The mother-in-law receives her fifty lashes, but hardly feels any pain through the pillows.
Then comes Mueller himself.
"What do you wish for yourself?"
"Can I have two wishes?"
"Well, first because you are a guest in our country and second, you're the head of the family, your wishes are granted, as long as they are reasonable."
"I would like 100 lashes instead of 50."
The headman is surprised, but recovers again right away and replies, "Yes, that is a pious wish, it shall be granted to you. And what is your second wish?"
"I would like to have my mother-in-law bound to my back without any pillows"
The weather may be foul, but try your best to have some fun. It's weekend!

Nana Mouskouri (娜都. 穆斯庫莉) & Charles Aznavour's "Mourir d'aimer"
movie songs, classical and operatic pieces, religious music, folk
songs from her native Greece and elsewhere. She has the voice of an angel because of a physiological abnormality: she got only one vocal cord instead of the normal two!
She first became famous in 1959, when she performed Hadjidakis' Kapou Iparchi I Agapi Mou,which she co-wrote with the poet Nikos Gatsos, at the inaugural Greek Song Festival. The song
won first prize Then in the 1960 Greek Song Festival, she performed two more Hadjidakis
compositions, Timōría ("Punishment") and Kyparissáki ("Little cypress") both ow which tied for first priz and later the same year, she performed Kostas
Yannidis' composition, Xypna Agapi Mou ("Wake up, my love"), at the
Mediterranean Song Festival in Barcelona and again won
first prize. After that she signed a recording contract with
Paris-based Philips-Fontana. The following year, she sung Weiße Rosen
aus Athen ("White Roses from Athens") on the soundtrack of a German documentary
about Greece, a song adapted
by Hadjidakis from a folk melody. It became a success, selling over a
million copies in Germany. The song was later translated into several
languages and it went on to become one of Mouskouri's signature tunes.
In 1963, Mouskouri sung "À force de prier" in Luxembourg's Eurovision Song Contest which helped win her the prestigious Grand Prix du Disque in France and then went on to achieve world fame. Michel Legrand wrote two hits for her: "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" (1964) and an arrangement of Katherine K.
Davis's "Carol of the Drum", "L'Enfant au Tambour" (1965), She has many French hit from the 1967 French film Le Jour Où la Colombe: Au Cœur de Septembre, Adieu Angélina, Robe Bleue, Robe Blanche and the French pop classic Le Temps des Cerises. She has also got a Spanish hit Con Todo el Alma.
In 1993, Mouskouri was appointed as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, replacing Audrey Hepburn, helping to raise funds for Bosnia in Belgium and Sweden . She gave her final concert in 2008. She is twice married and has two children. She now lives in Switzerland
Here we find her singing a duo with Charles Aznavour in a song that I love "Mourir d'aimer".
Mourir d’aimer

Edith Piaf's "Je ne regrette rien" (愛迪‧琵雅芙 我從不後悔什麼)
If one ever listens to any French songs, it's almost an impossibility not to have heard of one of her legendary singers. She travelled from Paris to all the capitals of Europe and to New York in the new world. She mesmerized everyone with her trembling voice, her gutteral rolling of the French letter "r" in

Charles Aznavour's "Hier Encore" (查理士‧愛斯拿胡 重返昨日)
Amongst the singers of French songs, there's another one who has already become a legend: Charles Aznavour. Born as Shahnour Vaghenag Aznavourian in 1924 Paris as the son of Armenian cook, he's a singer, songwriter, actor, activist and diplomat all rolled into one.
Patrick Bruel's "Je t’ l' dis quand même"
Now that I'm listening to French songs again, how could I have forgotten another one of my favorite French actor-singers, Patrick Bruel, whose jeiwsh parents came to France from Algeria in the late 19th century. He was born as Maurice Benguigui on May 14, 1959 in Tlemcen (then French Algeria) originally wanted to be a footballer but instead decided to become a singer after seeing a performance of Michel Sardou in 1975. His first hit was "Marre de cette nana-là" ("Fed up with that chick"), In the song "Je t'l' dis quand même",〈我仍這樣跟你說〉,he sings of the sentiments of one of those chance encounters in the corner café in one's neighborhood where one meets a girl, feels an impulse to chat her up but for one reason or another doesn't follow up but then later does so in his imagination. It's another one of his most popular songs. The song is simple, its melody catchy, its lyrics moving and he sings with feeling.

"Doctor, please hurry. My son swallowed a razor-blade."
"Don't panic, I'm coming immediately. Have you done anything yet?"
"Yea, I shaved with the electric razor."
2.
"Doctor, doctor, You've got to help me - I just can't stop my hands shaking!"
"Do you drink a lot?"
"Not really - I spill most of it!"
3.
"Doctor, doctor, will I be able to play the violin after the operation?"
"Yes, of course..."
"Great! I never could before!"
4.
A man speaks frantically into the phone, "My wife is pregnant, and her contractions are only two minutes apart!"
"Is this her first child?" the doctor queries.
"No, you idiot!" the man shouts. "This is her husband!"
5.
The surgeon told his patient that woke up after having been operated: "I'm afraid we're going to have to operate you again. Because, you see, I forgot my rubber gloves inside you."
"Well, if it's just because of them, I'd rather pay for them if you just leave me alone."
6.
A doctor and his wife were having a big argument at breakfast.
"You aren't so good in bed either!" he shouted and stormed off to work.
By mid morning, he decided he'd better make amends and phoned home.
After many rings, his wife picked up the phone.
"What took you so long to answer?"
"I was in bed."
"What were you doing in bed this late?"
"Getting a second opinion."
Go out and have a fun weekend. It's not raining any more!

Goytisolo's "Palabras para Julia" (Words for Julia)
One of the his best loved poems is "Palabras para Julia" (words for Julia) In Spanish, the word "palabras" means literally "words" either articulated orally or in writing but also has the connotations of "words of advice" and "words from the heart" etc. I think that's the kind of meanings he intends in the poem "Palabras para Julia", which has been beautifully set to music by another very famous Spanish guitarist-singer Paco Ibàñez . "Julia" is the name of Goytisolo's mother, whom he witnessed killed by a francoist assassination in 1938, when he was still 10 years old, something which affected the young poet deeply, so much so that in memory of his mother, he named his own daughter after her: Julia. So the name "Julia" is fraught with feelings for the poet. Goytisolo died in March 1999.
PALABRAS PARA JULIA
Tú no puedes volver atrás
porque la vida ya te empuja
como un aullido interminable.
interminable.
Hija mía es mejor vivir
con la alegría de los hombres
que llorar ante el muro ciego.
Te sentirás acorralada
te sentirás perdida o sola
tal vez querrás no haber nacido
no haber nacido
Yo sé muy bien que te dirán
que la vida no tiene objeto
que es un asunto desgraciado.
Entonces siempre acuérdate
de lo que un día yo escribí
pensando en ti pensando en ti
como ahora pienso.
La vida es bella, ya verás
como a pesar de los pesares
tendrás amigos, tendrás amor.
tendrás amigos
Un hombre solo, una mujer
así tomados, de uno en uno
son como polvo, no son nada
no son nada
Pero yo cuando te hablo a ti
cuando te escribo estas palabras
pienso también en otra gente.
Tu destino está en los demás
tu futuro es tu propia vida
tu dignidad es la de todos.
Otros esperan que resistas
que les ayude tu alegría
que les ayude tu canción
entre sus canciones.
Entonces siempre acuérdate
de lo que un día yo escribí
pensando en ti pensando en ti
como ahora pienso.
Nunca te entregues ni te apartes
junto al camino, nunca digas
no puedo más y aquí me quedo.
La vida es bella, tú verás
como a pesar de los pesares
tendrás amor, tendrás amigos.
tendrás amor
Por lo demás no hay elección
y este mundo tal como es
será todo tu patrimonio.
Perdóname no sé decirte
nada más pero tú comprende
que yo aún estoy en el camino.
Y siempre siempre acuérdate
de lo que un día yo escribí
pensado en ti pendado en ti
como ahora pienso.
