A Drinking Joke for a CNY Weekend

What with vacationing in the remote west of China and the enormous amount of downloading and uploading of photos that follows,  I have almost forgotten all about my usual Saturday fun. Only after a beer or two did some  hazy idea about this pre-holiday routine return. Chinese New Year is fun time for most Chinese and for those fond of the bottle, it's a perfectly respectable excuse for another binge. And there are no shortage of jokes about the fate of such angels of alcohol. Here's one.

Every night, after dinner, Harry took off for the local tavern. He would spend the whole evening there and would arrive home dirt drunk around midnight each night.

He would always have trouble getting his key into the keyhole and getting the door opened. His wife would then have to go to the door and relieve him from his fumbling after which she would proceed to yell and scream at him. But Harry continued his nightly routine.

After talking to a friend about her husband's behavior, her friend said, "For a change, why don't you treat him a little differently when he comes home next time? "

"How?" she asked.

"Why don't you greet him with a kiss? Who knows, perhaps he might change his ways too!"

The wife thought that might be a good idea.

That night, Harry took off again after dinner and returned around midnight in his usual condition.

His wife heard him at the door, quickly went to it, and opened the door, and let Harry in.

This time, instead of scolding him she took his arm and led him into the living room. She sat him down in an easy chair, put his feet up on the ottoman and took his shoes off. She then went behind him and started to cuddle him a little. After a while, she said to him, "It's pretty late, dear. I think we had better go upstairs to bed, now. Shouldn't we?"

Harry replied in his inebriated state, "I guess we might as well. I'll be getting in trouble with the stupid wife when I get home anyway!"

Happy Chinese New Year!"

  1. Good joke! Got to be careful when one changes the routines - the surprise could be pleasant or nasty and one'd better be ready for it!

  5. 改變習慣是痛苦的,習慣習慣是乏味的,所以千萬別養成習慣.

  6. Harry has a very good sense of humour even when he is drunk!
[版主回覆01/30/2012 22:29:45]His sense of humor probably will provoke another swift change of mind of she who must be obeyed!
