The Nabegataki Waterfall, Oguni, Aso District, Kumamoto. (熊本縣 小国町 阿蘇郡 鍋ヶ滝瀑布).

After the leisurely morning stroll at the Kurokawasou (黑川莊), we were driven to another small waterfall in the Aso District (阿蘇郡) of the Kumamoto Prefecture(熊本縣) near the town of Oguni (小国町).  It's the Nabekataki Waterfall (鍋ヶ滝瀑布).

Two toy bears with red cheeks outside the ticket office, the mascot animal of the Kumamoto Prefecture.

There were not very many tourists that day, mostly locals.

The ticket office also sells some fresh locally grown fresh vegetables at reasonable prices.

Carefully packed fresh radishes and cucumbers

The admission charges and opening hours: free for pre-primary kids, half price for middle school students or below and full charges for those in high school.

A map of the various tourist spots in the Aso District

Plastic Water bottles are put to good use.

To get to the bottom of the valley where the waterfall tumbles down, we got to walk carefully down some fairly steep wooden staircase on both sides of which are fallen leaves.

One end of the stream at the bottom of the ravine

The valley is covered over by some fairly dense vegetation.

The rocks on steam bed are overgrown with mosses and grasses

One of our tour group wanted to take a full frontal view of the waterfall.

Some prefer to the take the short cut by stepping over the rocks

This is the crossing. Not easy at all.

But most prefer the safer path on the right hand side of the waterfall. But that was quite rugged, narrow and treacherous. I slipped and injured my sole stepping on to the tip of some sharp rock whilst trying to give way to some other tourists coming from the opposite side of the narrow path. Fortunately, it wasn't too serious.

The sun was coming in through some openings from the tree tops

Blades of grass growing at the bends of a tree branch on the left of the path.

The waterfall was broken in the middle by some rock outcrops

Rays coming in through the leaves

The grass looks much greener under the sunlight

The waterfalls

Through the side of the path, I could see the water coming down quite close.

Got to protect my lens from the flying watersprays!

Like in the Niagara Falls, we could walk under and behind this little waterfall.

Water tumbling down on our left.

Another view from the back of the cave under waterfall

A view of the waterfall from the other side

A closer view. After this, our tour leader hurried us to leave for our lunch, a journey of more than an hour !
