The Waters of Jiuzhaigou

Our tourist guide told us that there is a saying in their trade about two Chinese two tourist hot spots: "After having been to Huangshan, you will never want to see any other kind of mountain; after having been to Jiuzhaigou, you will never want to see any other kind of water". The full impact of the latter part of this saying suddenly took on new meaning for me when I was there.

You may find giant waterfalls elsewhere. But you'll never find dense vegetation right in the middle of the falls except here in Jiuzhaigou.

Tree growing between practically every other line of fall !

and right in front of your eyes !

This is the biggest water fall in Jiuzhaigou.

Another angle of the fall

Trees, bushes, shrubs everywhere !

Water tumbling down

in every direction

Some sharp falls

A close up of one of the falls

And the water looks so fresh and so colorful !

But there are also gentler waters in smaller steps too. Where else in China, perhaps in the entire world (?) do you get such a full range of so many different styles of waterfalls so close to each other as in this magical valley?

  3. I envy the fishes living in Jiuzhaigou
[版主回覆11/15/2012 22:53:40]As far as I can see, I don't think I found any fishes there. Probably because of the coldness of the water and the heavy concentration of mineral in the water !

  5. Be they pleasing in the beginning, certain kinds of sound can be tiring when they become too familiar to the ear. But the sound of water, be they coming from the angry ocean, murmuring rivulets, gurgling springs, beating rains, light showers, rhythmic drops from eaves are always "heavenly music".
[版主回覆11/16/2012 15:53:54]There may be an evolutionary reason to it: to our primordial ancestors, the sound of water is the very sound of life itself. Scientists tell us we were orginally from the sea. The first thing scientists look for as a check on whether there is any life on any distant planet is to find out if there is any sign of water there, in whatever form ! Maybe, water spells the possibility of life for us too and hidden somewhere in some obscure corner in the deepest recesses of our brain, there is imprinted that faint memory stretching back millions of years to the origin of our primate ancestors' life, an instinctive affection for the sound of that life-giving liquid.

  7. 九寨溝飛瀑之美果然名不虛傳!
[版主回覆11/17/2012 10:10:34]In front of the waterfalls, I felt so powerless, so inadequate ! It seemed as if I hardly knew anything about photography!
