Practices at Ma Wan Park (馬灣練習)

Ma Wan Park is really a good place for practice. Its flowers are much better cared for than those in many municipal parks. I took advantage of the slightly better weather on Sunday and lingered there a while. I didn't expect much because there wasn't much sun. But the flowers didn't seem to mind.

An unknown flower putting out its bloom.

From white strips to white balls: some really tiny fern flowers like so many little white balls.

From balls to butterflies: a butterfly orchid with arms wide open

From butterfly to jelly-fish: the petals of this one is almost transparent. Looks so unreal!

But not when they grow older, a bit like us.

A dancing kung fu master?

a purple eyed mantis with a tuft of white hair?

Looks really like the exterior of some old Chinese bowls

A tiny little begonia with just one stamen

a sea of begonia

are these really flowers?

The tip of another string of flowers blooming but with new buds still pushing to have its own moment of glory

Love these strings of purple

But when they open out, they turn blue

Tiny angels
just landing upon the branches or preparing another take-off?

This little red flower has reed like stamens

A golden coconut palm?

Love these little red flowers

Three armless dancers and two onlookers hiding behind a screen?

The stamens of the hibiscus seem to be doing the same

They make their offering of life giving pollens in a ring around the those they fancy

They seem to be able to do this under searing summer heat or chilly winter breezes

The humble lantana in purple dancing amongst the leaves seem equally active all year round.

The garden is full of these little yellow balls

From balls to bun: this one looks really like a butter soaked croissant!

I like the way its colors get progressively stronger as its petals fan out

A yellow and orange chrysanthemum like the tentacles of the sea anemone

like the way they jostle for position at the centre.

And finally a humble daisy with barely a layer or two of petals at the entrance to wish me better luck next time.

  6. I like the dancing kung fu master. In fact, it looks cute than combative.
It doesn't really need strong direct sunlight to take good photos. As long as the day is not too overcast, a soft lighting environment can be as promising. It's how the photographer manipulates his camera that counts.
[版主回覆04/23/2013 11:41:41]I's cute probably because the lines are wavy, and there's a light dancing quality to it instead straight and rigid which would give one the impression of great tensive strength. Thanks for your photo tips. You're probably right. It's all a matter of the manipulation of lighting effects: how much, how long, angle etc

  8. Did you wear a shirt that closely resembled 18% gray on the day these pictures were taken?
I considered you did. Thanks for sharing.
