Washington in the Dark

Been to the famous "The Mall" of Washington many times already but it's usually during daylight hours. I went to the Library of Congress yesterday and then visited the US Botanic Garden and took numerous photos (about which more later). When I came out, it was already quite dark although it was barely past 5 p.m. .

The Botanic Garden is to the left of the photo.

The White House in the dark

Another view of Capitol Hill

The famous Christmas Tree in front of the White House which would be lit every year.

The Constitutional Avenue in the dark

A closer view of the same

A closer view of the same but later

The Washington Monument at dusk

Beginning to get dark

The Washington Monument a little later

The Washington Monument a little later still

The Washington Monument even later

The reflections of the Reflection Pool

The Union Station

Inside the Union Station

The ticket counters

The main hall is under repairs

The cafe on the main hall

A stall there selling sweaters and sportwears etc.

Another store selling costume jewellery

A department store to one side of the main hall

The reception counter of a proper restaurant at the station

Its Christmas tree.

A fast food stall a the food court selling assorted Mexican food

and salads

And fruit

Hey, taking pictures? Why not take a picture of me!
Cierto, Porque no? Por supuesto!  (Sure. Why not? Of course!)
Vale! Te le gusta? (OK. You like it?)
Ah, muy bonito! Muchas gracias! (Ah, very beautiful. Thank you very much)
De nada. Mi placer. (Don't  mention it. My pleasure.)

As I had done lots of walking and it was cold, I had a snack at another Mexican fast food shop at the Union Station.

Too early for dinner, the seats were quite empty. Looks nice though.

  1. It looked quite cold ... Isn't it?

Can one take photos in the Library of Congress? The interior is quite beautiful.

  2. Didn't realise you are in DC at present. Some of the shots are nice especially those taken near the The Washington Monument (like the overcast sky). Dare you go to the Central Park in the dark of the night?
[版主回覆12/29/2011 12:41:22]I believe that the Central Park is in New York. Since I don't have much around me and I don't at all look like a rich guy, I would imagine that I would not be in much danger even if I were to go there but I have no reason to!

  3. Pictures taken in dark are also beautiful. They won't shake in cold, but sharp.
[版主回覆01/01/2012 23:24:19]It's very difficult indeed to take pictures in the dark without a tripod! The camera mustn't be too heavy!

  4. Isn't it true that North America is more prone to violent weather conditions such as tornados? Is it because there are very many flat plains and few mountain ranges? But every cloud has a silver lining, it situates between two great oceans and has a lot of rain! More water makes life more hygienic!
[版主回覆01/11/2012 00:08:20]Tornados are just another name for violent typhoons caused by hot moist air from the oceans suddenly meeting very cold dry air from the north owing to the earth's rotation during summer season. But the lack of high mountains in middle America does exacerbate its effects. But you're right. Every cloud has a silver lining. The torrential rains accompanying tornados do help to clear away a lot of debris quietly collecting during calmer weather.
