Great Injustice

All my life, I have a special feeling for underdogs. These are usually simple people who work hard at their humble jobs, day in, day out and perhaps due to lack of opportunity for the kind of higher education which modern  society regards as "obligatory" are seldom placed into better paying positions and are thus left to fend for themselves, the best they can in some menial but absolutely necessary jobs and who never got the kind of appreciation for what they do which they so richly deserve. But this seems to be case, not only in human society. There're underdogs in the plant world too. They work indefatiguably to build up sufficient materials to be delivered to the much more glamorous flowers. They're called "leaves".

Leaves have a amazing variety of shapes, colors and textures.

When the sun is out, they may reveal the intricacy of their textures.

and shape.

Some have irregular shapes.

They arrange themselves upon their branches in an infinite variety of ways.

Some leaves are darker, others lighter; some are bigger, some smaller, some are broader, some narrower some are tapered, others spatulate etc...,

Some leaves are a dark green, or light green whilst others red.

Some space themselves from each other at a safe distance.

others are packed tight together

Some paint their leaves in yellow and green

Others in yellow green and red

The colors of some are more uniform

While others have not decided whether they want to be one color or two.

They may have fallen. That does not necessarily mean that they cannot remain attractive.

  1. I am sometimes attracted more by the leaves than by the flowers, especially leaves on the branches of a study tree. For one thing I like almost anything that is green. And then there is a job that leaves always do better than flowere; it's to provide the shady coolness on a hot summer day like this one.
